PITCH, HIT & AGILITY RUN and MLB Jr. HR DERBY
Area youth are invited to compete in our newly re-structured PITCH, HIT & AGILITY RUN competition and an MLB Jr. HR Derby!! All boys and girls between the ages of 7-14 years old (Age determined as of 4/26/18) are eligible to compete in the Pitch, Hit & Agility Run at River'sEDGE on Thursday, April 26th at 5:30pm. The cost is only $1 per child. The Jr. HR Derby has 3 age divisions 14U (Born between 7/18/03-7/17/05), 12U (Born between (718/05- 7/17/07), 10U (Born after 7/18/07) Age determined as of 7/17/18. The Jr. HR Derby will be held on Friday, April 27th at 5:30pm on HitTRAX at River'sEDGE and the cost is $1 per child. The competitions will run with boys competing against boys and girls competing against girls in each of the age divisions. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills.
Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships
Independence is invited to attend the Live Healthy Iowa Lids Track Championships offered in Jesup. Jesup Recreation is happy to offer young track athletes a chance to compete against each other in Jesup as well as a chance to run at the state level in Marshalltown. This meet offers kids a great opportunity to get outside, compete, and be introduced to track for maybe the first time! This meet will be held on Sunday, May 6th at the high school track in Jesup. Field events (standing long jump and softball throw) will start at 1pm and running will start at 1:30pm. Registration is FREE and will be finalized on April 29th. Run,Punt&Pass
We have re-structured this program and inviting area youth to participate in our local Run,Punt&Pass. The Independence Parks & Recreation Department with Tim Reed State Farm will host this special event. This competition is open to all boys and girls in 3rd- 8th grade and will be held on Sunday, September 9th at 1pm at the Independence High School Football Field. This competition is FREE to all participants. NO football shoes or cleats of any form are allowed, NO bare feet either. Each participant will be allowed ONE Run, ONE Punt, and ONE Pass as part of his/ her competition. Score are based on time and distance.
