Have You Registered?

Is reading something you already do or would like to do?  You should join the summer reading program! It is stress-free, fun, and you will receive incentives...and maybe even prizes!  The Summer Reading Program is for babies, children, teens and adults. Everyone can participate!!

Just register at the library or online and read for the amount of time designated for your age group.  The babies program works a little differently, focusing on pre-literacy activities. Find out more! 


Fitness Friday

Friday, June 9 @ 8:00-9:00 am

Jump start your day! The Wellness Specialists from the Buchanan County Health Center will offer a variety of exercises outside under the mature oaks in front of the historic Lee Mansion.
This will be a full body work-out with the use of simple exercise tools that will be provided.  Enjoy strength, balance, flexibility and core training. Open to the public and free of charge! All levels of fitness are encouraged to attend. Adults only please. No registration necessary. More here.


Minecraft After Hours

Friday, June 9 @ 5:00-8:00 pm

Teen and tween Minecrafters in grades 5-12 are invited to the library after closing hour Friday to create and survive!

Interested participants, experienced and beginners, can join the adventure into this virtual world of danger and competition.

Advance sign up is required -stop in or call 319-334-2470. Participants must have their own Minecraft account already established and provide a username when registering. Snacks will be provided. More here.

iTAB Meeting

Monday, June 12 @ 4:00-5:00 pm

Calling all people in grades 7-12! iTAB is looking for new members! The Independence Public Library Teen Advisory Board (iTAB) is designed to energize teen programming and services, as well as allow teens a greater voice at the library. We meet monthly to discuss books, movies, ideas, volunteer opportunities; plan upcoming events; and talk about what’s going on. We also eat snacks - and sometimes play games or make crafts.
This month we'll be playing Giant Jenga!

Pink PolkaDot Studio

Monday, June 12 @ 6:30-8:00 pm

Come to relax, enjoy, and create a canvas painting at the library with Pink PolkaDot Studio staff. No painting skills are required. Enjoy step-by-step instruction. The experienced instructor will guide you through the entire process. It’s easy, fun, and totally stress free.

The class is currently full, but please call if interested to be put on our waiting list for the next class.


Crafts & Sundaes

Tuesday, June 13 @ 1:30-2:30 pm

Children are invited to take part in Care Centers Pair ‘n’ Share, a new outreach program this summer.

in grades 1-5 may sign up to go to Lexington Estate and make a Flag Day craft and enjoy ice cream sundaes with the residents. Registration information here.



Wednesday, June 14 @ 9:30-10:30 am

Are bubbles always round? What is needed to create a giant bubble? Discover the answer to these questions and more as Bluedorn Science Imaginarium of the Grout Museum District presents a fascinating demonstration with bubbles!

Everyone is welcome to attend library programs; no library card is necessary. Children signed up for the Summer Reading Program will receive an incentive toward prizes for attending. More info here.
