Camp Creamery - Little Red Meets the Wolves
     Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 11:00 am
     Local children put on a performance at the Independence Jr/Sr High School!  Free
     will donation. 

Farmer's Market
     Dog Day at the Market!  Saturday from 8 am - noon at the Mill.

Shred Day
     Saturday from 10 am - noon.  Conveniently and safely get rid of all those documents-
     for free!  See info under "Community Shred Day" below.


Fitness Friday

Friday, June 16 @ 8:00-9:00 am

Jump start your day! The Wellness Specialists from the Buchanan County Health Center will offer a variety of exercises outside under the oaks in front of the historic Lee Mansion.
Today we will be doing yoga! Please bring a mat or towel. Open to the public and free of charge! All levels of fitness are encouraged to attend. Adults only please. No registration necessary. More here.



Friday, June 16 @ 11:00 am-12:30 pm

Teens and tweens in grades 5-12 are welcome to come learn about geocaching! Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where participants use a GPS. We will use pre-programmed GPS devices, but feel free to bring your own smartphone with a geocaching app, if you choose.

Since we will search for treasures throughout town, a liability waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian prior to leaving the library. No registration is required. Meet in the Community Room at the library – rain or shine - or heat! More info here.


Community Shred Day

The Independence Public Library is teaming up with BankIowa and Onsite Information Destruction to bring you a Community Shred Day from 10:00 am – noon.

Shredding your documents is key in preventing identity theft.  Use this Community Shred Day to destroy personal documents no longer needed that include personal information, social security numbers, and/or financial information. Please click here for more details.


Build a Better Volunteer

Monday, June 19 @ 6:30-8:00 pm

Learn how to put your best skills to good use and how to manage volunteers. Roxanne Fuller, the Buchanan County ISU Extension and Outreach Director, will show you how to determine the volunteer position that is best for you and what to look for in an organization prior to committing to be a volunteer. How to best manage volunteers for overall success of the program will also be covered.

Games & Goodies
Tuesday, June 20 @ 1:00-3:00 pm

Adults are invited to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the Community Room and take part in a friendly game of cards, dominoes, Scrabble, or other game. Light refreshments will be served.

Absolute Science

Become engaged in the world of science through demonstrations and experiments. How does light change our perception of what is right in front of our eyes? What happens when a liquid is put under pressure? Dry ice exploration, fantastic foam, and so much more!

The scientists of Absolute Science LOVE volunteers to help conduct their experiments, so come ready to get hands on!

Everyone is welcome. Children signed up for the Summer Reading Program will receive an incentive toward prizes for attending. More info here.

Teens and tweens are invited to learn how to master their flying skills by taking paper airplanes to the next level using science.

Robotics Workshop

Come and go as you like during this robotics workshop in the Community Room. Build, program, and play with robotics from LEGO WeDo or LEGO Mindstorms! Explore our other devices too!

Our volunteer experts will assist you if needed. This program is free for all ages and open to the public. No registration is necessary.
