The Independence Public Library will be closed all day Monday, September 4th in recognition of Labor Day. Regular hours will resume Tuesday.

Tuesday, September 5 @1:00-3:00 pm

Adults are invited to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and take part in a friendly game of cards, dominoes, Scrabble, or other game. Light refreshments will be served.

Games & Goodies meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from 1:00-3:00 pm.

Growing Together: Landscaping for Wildlife

Wednesday, September 6 @ 6:00-8:00 pm

The Buchanan County Master Gardeners are partnering with IPL to offer three free educational programs as part of the Master Gardener 2017 Summer Webinar Series.

The final program, “Landscaping for Wildlife”, will be held at 6:00-8:00 pm in the Community Room of the Public Library. Learn about simple steps to bring landscaping alive with birds, butterflies, and more.

Join iTAB!

iTAB is currently on a membership drive for 7-12 grade students!  The library is looking for teens for its Teen Advisory Board who have great ideas, want to have fun, and would like to make a difference at IPL. 

iTAB Is also a great way to get your volunteer hours. 
Applications are currently available at IPL (or download here) or at the media center at St John's or the Independence Jr/Sr High. The application is due by Friday, Sept. 8 at the Independence Public Library.

and Sunday, September 10 @1:00 - 4:00 PM

Take advantage of great prices on a nice selection of books and movies for all ages in the Community Room during this semi-annual book sale during the hours listed above. Profits will benefit the library.

The sale Saturday coincides with Art Under the Oaks in front of historic Lee Mansion next to the library. This art festival, from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, will feature area artists, a scarecrow contest, a quilt display, Master Gardener tours, live music with Michael J. Thoma, food, and more. The Lee Mansion will also be open for tours.

We have a new program this fall - Teen Book Club! Open to teens currently in grades 7-12, this book club is for teens and by teens. Pick up a copy of this month's selection at the circulation desk and then come to the discussion Monday, September 18 @ 6:00 pm. Snacks will be provided.
