The Buchanan County Art group will host the 2017 Art Under the Oaks Festival on September 9th from 10 am to 4 pm in front of the Lee Mansion (next to the Independence Public Library).

Take advantage of great prices on a nice selection of books and movies for all ages in the Community Room during this semi-annual book sale during the hours listed above. Profits will benefit the library.

Dr. Tom Morain combines two of his passions—piano and Iowa history--in this intriguing window into Iowa’s frontier past. “Hymns and Herds” takes the audience through a year in the life of an Iowa pioneer family through photographs from the 1850 Farm at Living History Farms and lively adaptations of well-known 19th-Century folk hymns.

Local author, Betty Brandt Passick, formerly from Fairbank, Iowa, will present her third book "Gangster in Our Midst" in the Community Room.

This historical fiction is set in a small bustling railroad village along the Wapsipinicon in the 1920s, the time of the prohibition.

Award-winning composer-pianist Dan Kennedy will make a special concert appearance at the Independence Public Library.

This concert will feature solo piano music to soothe the soul. Hailing from Massachusetts and conservatory trained, Kennedy has been heard on over 250 radio stations and his much-awaited WHISPERINGS has put him into the top 300 contemporary solo piano artists worldwide.
